ESM Free Summer Meals Program ESM Free Summer Meals Program: Anyone 18 years old and younger can receive free breakfast and lunch this summer. The Summer Food Service Program runs July 6 - Aug. 13 at two sites. Meals will be “Grab & Go” to be consumed off-site. East Syracuse Elementary School (230 Kinne St.) meals are available on Tuesday and Thursday from 10–11:30 a.m. Use the cafeteria entrance and follow the signs. Each day families will receive multiple meals (Tuesday: 2 days of meals, Thursday: 3 days of meals) ESM Central High School: These meals must be picked up daily. Both breakfast and lunch can be picked up Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Breakfast only is available each day from 7:15-8 a.m. Use the main entrance and follow the signs to the cafeteria. Chartwells K12 Honored as ESM’s Partner of the Year Chartwells K12 Honored as ESM’s Partner of the Year: Chartwells K12 has been recognized as ESM's 2021 ESM Partnership for Learning. Chartwells staff prepare and serve ESM students breakfast and lunch each day and manage the food service program.  When the pandemic hit in March 2020, the Chartwells team didn’t miss a beat. Literally overnight, they switched from preparing fully cooked foods where everything was served in our schools — to serving all individually wrapped meals where nothing was served onsite. The Chartwells team successfully overcame supply shortages and food delivery issues to set up a completely new program. ESM Named a Best Community for Music Education for 8th Year ESM Named a Best Community for Music Education for 8th Year: ESM has earned the Best Communities for Music Education designation for the 8th year in a row from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. The Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.  “Despite the challenges and obstacles to typical music instruction during the 2020-21 school year, our teachers and students have been able to create unique and innovative musical experiences. ESM Students Earn Scholastic Art Awards ESM Students Earn Scholastic Art Awards: ESM students earned 19 awards at the 2021 CNY Scholastic Art Awards including 3 Gold Keys, 10 Silver Keys and 6 Honorable Mentions.  Gold Key pieces will go on to the national competition. The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in fewer entries this year from throughout the 13 Central New York counties represented. Pieces were judged virtually. The CNY Scholastic Art Awards are sponsored by M&T Bank and hosted by Onondaga Community College. 21 ESM DECA Students Qualify for NYS Competition 21 ESM DECA Students Qualify for NYS Competition: ESM DECA, an association of marketing students, had an outstanding performance at the DECA Region 9 Virtual Conference.  Nine students placed in the top 3 of their event to advance to the New York State DECA Virtual Career Conference. Also, 12 students advanced to the state level for their community service projects.  “This has been a very difficult year with presentations being prerecorded and no interaction with the judges. I am very proud of the achievements of these students and the hard work that they put in to be successful,” said DECA advisor Robert Anzalone. Districtwide School Safety Plan Public Hearing Districtwide School Safety Plan Public Hearing: PUBLIC HEARING   The East Syracuse Minoa Central School District will conduct a Public Hearing on June 24, 2021 for the purpose of reviewing the Draft 2021 Districtwide School Safety Plan required under the Project Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) legislation. ESM Updates Plan to Increase In-Person Learning ESM Updates Plan to Increase In-Person Learning: Our  ESM Reopening of School Plan — Stronger Together  was amended and approved by the Board of Education on April 19, 2021 to increase in-person learning, which includes Pine Grove and the high school starting in-person learning 4 days a week, with Wednesday still being remote for all learners.   FULL PLAN with amendments approved April 19, 2021 to increase in-person learning   The April 2021 amendments to ESM’s Reopening Plan include the approved guidance from the New York State Department of Health and were developed with District stakeholders. CBS National Morning New Features Pine Grove CBS National Morning New Features Pine Grove: Pine Grove was featured on National News Oct. 28! Our new School Information Resource Officer (SIRO) Triston Campbell is doing a great job connecting with Pine Grove students! The CBS Morning News featured him and Pine Grove in their "What to Watch" segment. ESM Among Newsweek’s Top STEM Schools in US ESM Among Newsweek’s Top STEM Schools in US: Newsweek has named East Syracuse Minoa Central High School to its 2020 list of the best STEM high schools in America. “We’re very proud to be honored nationally as a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) school,” said Grenardo Avellino, ESM Central High School Executive Principal. ESM is ranked number 3,642 of more than 31,000 public and private high schools in the U.S. on the Newsweek Top 5,000 STEM High School list.
