ESM Education Foundation Dinner &  Game Night Returns Feb. 5 ESM Education Foundation Dinner & Game Night Returns Feb. 5: The East Syracuse Minoa Education Foundation (ESMEF) will host its annual dinner Saturday, February 5 featuring a fun, game-themed evening for adults. “An Evening in Vegas” begins at 7 p.m. at Traditions at the Links in East Syracuse. In addition to a dinner featuring food stations and adult beverages, there will be casino-themed games and raffle baskets. Tickets are $75 per person or $700 for a 10-pack. Proceeds benefit the ESM Education Foundation. The not-for-profit, volunteer-run Foundation enhances and supports the educational experience for ESM students. To date, the Foundation has funded more than $240,000 in grants for innovative programs at ESM that would not otherwise be funded by tax dollars or state funds. Athletic Hall of Fame Announce 8 Inductees for January 2022 Athletic Hall of Fame Announce 8 Inductees for January 2022: The East Syracuse Minoa Athletic Hall of Fame Committee has announced its 8th class of inductees. Honorees are Dan Almonte (Class of 1992), Cheryl Cole (1982), Britt Dahlin (1974), Lorrie Drennen (1989), Steve Kubecka (1956), Denny Murray (1978), Raymond Perry (1983) and Charles Tyminski (1968). A day of celebrations is planned on Saturday, January 15, 2022. Everyone is welcome to attend the ceremony starting with introductions at 3:45 p.m. during halftime of the boy’s varsity basketball game at ESM Central High School . The official unveiling of each inductee’s plaque of accomplishments will follow immediately in the Hall of Fame lobby outside the gymnasium.  A dinner, reception and formal inductions are planned to inductees in the evening. Dr. DeSiato Named NYS Superintendent of the Year Dr. DeSiato Named NYS Superintendent of the Year: Dr. Donna DeSiato ESM Superintendent Dr. Donna DeSiato was named 2021-22 New York State Superintendent of the Year by the New York State Council of School Superintendents (THE COUNCIL).  “More than anything else, I want to thank our community, and especially the Boards of Education I have worked with, for giving me the time and patience that is required to lead an effort for transformation and shared success. There is nothing more valuable to an educator than the privilege of time to research, plan, nurture, and live within the continuous improvement that one is a part of making happen,” Dr. DeSiato said. Chartwells K12 Honored as ESM’s Partner of the Year Chartwells K12 Honored as ESM’s Partner of the Year: Chartwells K12 has been recognized as ESM's 2021 ESM Partnership for Learning. Chartwells staff prepare and serve ESM students breakfast and lunch each day and manage the food service program.  When the pandemic hit in March 2020, the Chartwells team didn’t miss a beat. Literally overnight, they switched from preparing fully cooked foods where everything was served in our schools — to serving all individually wrapped meals where nothing was served onsite. The Chartwells team successfully overcame supply shortages and food delivery issues to set up a completely new program. They ensured that ESM students continued to receive 11,000 healthy and nutritious breakfast and lunch meals each week while they were learning remotely. This year, Chartwells partnered with ...
ESM Named a Best Community for Music Education for 8th Year ESM Named a Best Community for Music Education for 8th Year: ESM has earned the Best Communities for Music Education designation for the 8th year in a row from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. The Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.  “Despite the challenges and obstacles to typical music instruction during the 2020-21 school year, our teachers and students have been able to create unique and innovative musical experiences. 28 ESM DECA Members headed to State Competition 28 ESM DECA Members headed to State Competition: 28 ESM DECA students advanced to the New York State DECA Career Conference after outstanding performances at regionals. 14 students placed in the top 3 of their event, while 17 qualified for their community service projects. Dr. DeSiato Chosen for International STEM Leadership Initiative Dr. DeSiato Chosen for International STEM Leadership Initiative: East Syracuse Minoa Superintendent Dr. Donna DeSiato is among those chosen from 10 states and three countries to serve on the first Leadership Coordinating Council (LC2). The group of 16 will lead a global movement of leaders devoted to dramatic improvement of student learning, especially in STEM—science, technology, engineering and math.     The prestigious network called the STEM Learning Ecosystems Community of Practice ( SLECoP ) selected Dr. DeSiato and the other members in a rigorous application process. DECA Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre Jan. 18 DECA Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre Jan. 18: After being postponed, ESM DECA will present “Dinner at Eight, Dead by Nine” a Mutt Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre featuring students and staff on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 7-10 p.m. at Pine Grove Middle School. Come out for a night of mystery, food, friends and raffles for great prizes to benefit Helping Hounds Dog Rescue. Tickets are $30 and include dinner . This project’s inspiration was the loss of an impactful ESM teacher, David Brandon. He was very involved in both DECA and theater and adopted his beloved dog from Helping Hounds. ESM Among Newsweek’s Top STEM Schools in US ESM Among Newsweek’s Top STEM Schools in US: Newsweek has named East Syracuse Minoa Central High School to its 2020 list of the best STEM high schools in America. “We’re very proud to be honored nationally as a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) school,” said Grenardo Avellino, ESM Central High School Executive Principal. ESM is ranked number 3,642 of more than 31,000 public and private high schools in the U.S. on the Newsweek Top 5,000 STEM High School list.
